Stone Wonders
The Australian countryside is magnificent,
and very old. Our predecessors made great
use of stone from the volcanic past this country has,
in creating an abundant affinity with stone. Stones are warm
in the sun, cool in the shade, they are part
of the universe too. They are solid and grounded,
and just settle where they fall, sometimes for
thousands of years, even more in some places.
The first thing I saw when I climbed up into the new
land, was the stones like great mothers reclining on
the earth, and a bluestone mill. I immediately
studied them both, and sat down in the grass and
thought of the standing stones far away,
dotted in every country around the world,
plentiful and still standing, in spite of the
march of time. Stone has staying power. Stone
is reliable and strong and grounded.
With my swag and belongings around me,
I made ready to meet my guide.

Beautiful.
The imagery, both visually and in text is just divine Monika. So soothing to my Australian eyes.
Beautiful pictures! It amazes me how the stones look so much different from the mountains where I live. The colors, the descriptions, everything. And still, while I am completely attached to the mountains that surround my birthplace and home, I can feel a connection to the stones you picture.
Yes, Kim, I have just read your post. The mountains there look like they are worth holding onto. Perhaps this is the key? The world is full of wonders:-)
